Home Made Baby Wipes

Check out this great recipe for making your own baby wipes. I got this (the pictures and the recipe) from Fistful of Coupons.

Ingredients:

1 Roll of Paper Towels (I recommend Viva as it has a nice cotton feel to it)
2 Cups Water
2 Tbsp. any Baby Oil, Apricot Oil, Mineral Oil, or Tea Tree Oil/ Malaleuca(anti-fungal)
1 Tbsp. Baby Wash (optional)
1 water-tight container (I love the Ziploc large round tub)

Directions:
Take the paper towel roll and cut in in half. You can take some large kitchen shears or a sharp knife. To the Water-tight container add your water, 2 Tbsp. any of the oils listed and optionally the baby wash. Gently mix the ingredients together and drop in the paper towel half. Seal the container and flip upside down. Within about 10-15 minutes normally the whole roll has been absorbed. Open it up and remove the cardboard paper towel holder and you can start using the wipes!

Baby Oil + other oils
I know from my baby shower I already had lots of baby oil that people had given me. I had NO IDEA what to do with baby oil, so I just didn’t use it. As for other oils you can find them at natural food stores or possibly even at Fred Meyer. My sister-in-law buys the Burts Bee’s apricot oil because she loves the smell. She doesn’t add the baby wash to her’s either. Another friend uses the J&J Lavendar baby oil to make her’s smell better. Other’s use the Tea Tree Oil/Melaleuca because it’s an antifungal/antibacterial which will help if your baby gets yeast infections.

Price Breakdown:
Typically you can get the Viva paper towels for around $1 per roll. I have seen them as low as $7.99 for a 10-pack at Target. This week at RiteAid you can get a 6-pack for $5.99 (or $1 per roll). The Viva rolls have 50 sheets, so when you cut the roll in half you get 100 wipes.

Baby oil + generic baby wash can be purchased as low as $1 at the dollar store or if you coupon you might score a great deal. The oil and wash hold enough 10+ batches of wipes..so it costs about .20 per roll.

So these cost about $1.20 for 100 Wipes!
Thanks Fistful of Coupons!

Buy 2 Cap’N Crunch Cereals: $1.00 ea.
Use $1.00 Cap’N Crunch Cereal Printable Coupon
or coupon from insert this past weekend
Final Price: $.50 ea.

I do have to admit that I have not verified if we are able to score this deal locally. If you know, would you please share.

Thanks Coupon Gal!

Have You Ever Just Had One of Those Days?

Okay, so before I show you the picture I JUST have to say a few words. Many of you, who have been following me for a while, have met/seen my "assistant" Blakey. Well, I have to tell you, he is such a card. Every time we turn around he is making us laugh for some reason or another. He REALLY is the family clown. Of course ALL of my kids are great and have their unique personalities. I could go on an on about my kids (as I'm sure many of you could too about your own children). Well, since most of you have met Blakey via in person or through my blogs, I just HAVE to share this picture with you.

Okay, so yesterday (Monday) evening we decided to go out to dinner (yes, with a coupon) and we were REAL hungry. We sent each of the kids to go in and go potty "AND wash your hands too." Okay, now you are done with that, "go and get your shoes on, so we get be ready to walk out the door." Blakey comes out of his "filthy" bedroom, where he can't find a single thing (yes, he has managed to turn his room upside down in a matter of days), and says "I cannot find my other shoe." I say, "you need to go back in there and find it, because you just had it a couple of hours ago." This is what happens when you ask him to pick his stuff up and he just takes it and chucks it in his room. Things just kind of land wherever. "We are going to leave in a few minutes and you'd better have your shoes on." I am trying to work with him in getting things done the first time I tell him. It is still a work in progress I tell ya'.

Okay, so we are off and running. Get to the restaurant, park the van, my husband goes to open the back door and he is presented with this...........

Look at his shoes!!! So, we ask him why he has two different shoes on, and he comes back with "well, I couldn't find my other flip-flop." Well, to his credit, he has them on the right feet and he DID get his shoes on so we could leave. :)

I don't think I have EVER laughed so hard. So, we came home and I took this picture. As you can see, he is a bit messy and not too happy with me.

Anyway, I just wanted to share with you all. Maybe you won't think it is as funny as I did, but I wanted to share.

Ever have anything like this happen with your kiddos?

Thanks!

Cheryl

Target trip today

Okay, so before I went to Yokes today I went out to Target to see about getting some John Frieda and "other" stuff. This was kinda' messed up. All I have to say is MAKE SURE YOU TAKE A LOOK AT YOUR RECEIPT BEFORE YOU LEAVE!!! I don't know if you have heard recently, but there has been some whispering about "guests" not getting the full amount of their coupons off when shopping at Target. I have been hearing of this for a while now and had never had such a thing happen to me, until today, and to say the least "I am still quite confused." My deal doesn't make sense to me, although I am happy with what I paid, it doesn't make sense to me.

Okay, so here is what I did today.

Without coupons, this would have cost me $38.21. With coupons and savings, this SHOULD HAVE cost me something like $12.21. Okay, so I am going to show you my receipt because it is MEHESSED UP! I wound up actually only paying....$6.16. You can double click on the image below to see it better.
 Okay, so, a little explanation....

Diet Mountain Dew (for my husband, I really do not like buying the stuff as it makes my total go up)
$2.66X2
=$3.32, making them $1.66 each

Feminine Cloths X4 at $1.77 each
=$3.08, making them $0.77 each

Tums X1 at $1.92
=FREE, making it $0.03 overage

John Frieda at $5.39 each X4
-$3/2 Target coupon X2 (I'm not sure if these are still available)
-$3/1 X4 from recent insert
=$3.56, making them $0.89 each!

Okay, so I was checking my receipt before I left and the receipt does not show that it took off two of my four John Frieda manufacturer coupons and only $1.77 off of two Summer's Eve (should be $2/2). Okay, so, I have been scouring and scouring my receipt and it just does NOT make sense to me. So, I waited for my hubby to get home, so he could help me figure this out and this is what we have come up with........

ALL of my coupons DID come off, but just did not show up on my receipt. I have no idea why that would happen, and it makes absolutely NO sense. I feel really bad, 'cause she gave me money back that I wasn't supposed to get back, but we both could not make sense of the receipt and she works there! So, I will be going in and speaking with them in the next week or so. I have been really swamped with work and today was one of the only days I was able to get out this week and get some shopping done. So, we'll see. Anyway, so just a word to the wise, watch your receipt and take your calculator with you. :) I take mine, but still manage to get messed up. ;)

ADDENDUM:  When I posted this yesterday I forgot to mentioned that the girl at the customer service desk did mention that they just recently received an e-mail stating that there were "weird" things happening with coupons not coming off of "guests" orders. So, just and FYI for you, they are aware of it.

Thanks!

**Repost** Instant Win Game on Facebook for Albertsons

I am reposting this, as I have heard of many people winning. I have won TWICE!! If you know me at all, I'm not a winner and I have won twice! So, if you are interested, go give it a try, you might be lucky too.

If you didn't know already, there is a new instant win game over on the Albertsons Facebook page. You will have to "like" them, then that will give you access to play the instant want game. Many people are reporting wins. I have to admit that I went and played this morning and....I WON!!! Yay! I won a $25 gift card! I am SOOOOOOO excited. So, if you are interested in playing, go here and that will take you to their page.

Thanks Coupon Posse' for the heads up!

P.S.~Let us know if you win. :)

Yogurt Cheese

Remember that recipe I posted a week or two ago called "Yogurt Cheese?" Well, I tried it and I liked it!! It was soooooo very easy and a real nice change from "regular" yogurt. If you need the recipe, click over on the recipes tab at the top of my blog and you will come across it. All I did was.....

1. Bought a big container of FF plain yogurt. (I have yet to make my own yogurt).
2. Lined a strainer with coffee filters.
3.  Placed the lined strainer over a big bowl.
4. Poured the full container of yogurt into the lined strainer.
5. Placed it in the fridge overnight.

And, this is what it looked like when it was done.
Look at how thick and creamy it is.

This what the yogurt "water" looks like when you are done. This is the "stuff" that drained out of the yogurt.

Okay, so, now all I have to do is add a little bit of vanilla extract and some Splenda and I'm good to go. It tastes very very good. And, I feel it is VERY frugal too. So, I just have a half-a-cup of this (1 point worth) with some fresh fruit and yum!

Thanks!

Cheryl

Yokes' Deal With Some Doublers

I went out today to get a little shopping done. I don't normally use doublers at Yokes, nothing against it, I just don't normally. Anyway, I really wanted to get some more FREEEEE pickles. Yep, a girl has to have her pickles. :) Anyway, here is what I came away with and I'm very very happy with it!

So, without coupons, this would have cost me $18.41. With my coupons, this cost me......$1.72!

Ronzoni pasta 2X$1.50=$3
-$0.50/1X2 from Blinkie at Safeway a month or so ago
-Doubler X2 (She took off $2,one dollar for each doubler)
=FREE

Nalley Pickles 5X$1.50=$7.50
-$1.50/1X5 from RP 8/29
=FREE!!!

Crest toothpaste2X$0.79 (I think these were supposed to be $0.97 each)
-$1/1 X2 ordered from previous insert
=$0.42 overage total, $0.21 overage from each coupon

M&M Pretzel1X$2.99
-$1/1 X1 ordered from previous insert
Doubled at $1/1
=$0.99

Note:  The Crest originally rang up at $2.46 each (Crest Tatar). So, I had to go back in and have that fixed. They were so good about giving my money back and then only charging me $0.79 for each toothpaste (not on purpose), but anyway they were just really nice!

Thanks!

Cheryl

$2/1 Ball Park Franks

There is a coupon over here for $2/1 Ball Park Franks. This is through Facebook, so you will need to "like" them first and they let you print it right away. Anyway, just go on over here to print it out.

"People" are saying that these might go along nice with the "free" Doritos when you buy two Ball Park Franks coupon in the Albertsons ad this week. Well, let me tell you.......it's not quite as nice as was originally thought. The coupon in the Albertsons ad is when you buy two Ball Park Angus Beef or Beef Franks. These are something like $4.49 a package. The ones that are on sale are the "meat" franks.  I learned this the hard way and didn't get as good of a deal as I thought. :(

Anyway, just thought I would share that tidbit with you.

Thanks Coupon Posse for the heads up on this coupon!

FIY=Fix It Yourself

Ever in a jam? Something breaks, you need it fixed, don't want to buy a new one, want to fix it yourself? Well, I have just the Website that could help you in your time of need. It is called Fix Ya (solutions for everything). Really, they have a ton of info on this website. Here is some of the info that I grabbed from their site...

ABOUT US

In 2005, too many product manufacturers were neglecting post-purchase customer support. While there were thousands of shopping sites and search engines, customers looking to repair, modify and beautify their belongings were left at a loss. This was a particularly egregious offence as so many brand name retailers were releasing new technologies unseen by the average consumer.

Frustrated by the lack of practical post-purchase information, entrepreneur Yaniv Bensadon set out to build a community resource capable of providing relevant and up-to-date troubleshooting data. Bensadon and his small team began aggregating practical product tips and providing then in one user-friendly site. This site became the home of the FixYa community.

Today, with over 20 million visitors and 1 million products in its database, FixYa continues to empower individuals to repair and improve upon their already-purchased possessions. Meanwhile, the company has since begun offering business services to manufacturers and retail businesses through its custom partnership opportunities. To see what FixYa users are saying about the site, visit the Testimonial Page.

Walgreen's National Coupon Policy?

Hip2Save is reporting that she heard that Walgreen's is going to have a COUPON POLICY!! Wahooo! IT'S ABOUT TIME!!!! This is what she has been told by one of her readers.....

I just had a conversation with the Walgreens Corporate office and was told that effective August 26th 2010, they will be implementing a National coupon policy that will be posted on their website. I look at this as good news! We will finally have an actual policy instead of just guidelines that the store manager can interpret at their own discretion. Not sure if you were already aware of this, but I know that I will be looking forward to seeing the policy listed on Walgreens website come August 26th!

I really hope this is true. Wouldn't that just be dandy? So, until then, we'll see....

Thanks Hip2Save!

**ANOTHER EGG RECALL**

Yep, you read that right. There was just another egg recall that was announced today.

Iowa's Hillandale Farms said Friday it was recalling its eggs after laboratory tests confirmed illnesses associated with them.

Iowa's Hillandale Farms said Friday it was recalling its eggs after laboratory tests confirmed illnesses associated with them. The company did not say how many eggs were being recalled or if it is connected to Wright County Egg, the other Iowa farm that recalled 380 million eggs earlier this week.

It looks like the eggs were distributed to grocery distribution centers, retail groceries and food service companies which service or are located in fourteen states, including Arkansas, California, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Texas, and Wisconsin.

You can go on over here to read the full article.

Albertsons

I was just in there again today to get some "not the best frugal priced" peanut butter ($2 for two with manufacturer coupon of $1/2), but we are out and I didn't want to pay $3 or so for it, so I figured $1 for a jar was not too bad. Anyway, here are a couple of prices that I took note of.

The smaller bags of Malt-O-Meal cereal was $0.69 a bag.

McCormick Seasonings Grill-Mates (the ones in the shaker) are 10 for $10
They have a tear pad right next to them with the coupons for $1/2, making them $0.50 a bottle; not too bad if you have to pay for them.

Thanks!

Albertsons~

Do you still want to get some Sweet and Salty Nature Valley Bars (I'm addicted) and have depleted your coupon supply for these? Well, I was just at Alberston's today (Argonne&Trent) and they had boxes with peelies! Yay! I was SOOOOOOOO excited (although I'm thinking that my pound weight gain at WW last week had to do with the MANY Sweet and Salty's that I had). Sooooooo, I was able to snag up a few more boxes! Yay for me! I'm going to put some in the freeze so I have to eat them slower rather than just inhaling the whole dang thing. :)

I managed to pick up some Granola Thins, but I'm not sure that it was really worth it. YES! I was soooooo excited that I found them, 'cause I have been looking EVERYWHERE for these things. I got home went to open one up as only one bar (chocolate) has 2 points. Okay, so I'm thinking it is worth it. Well, I open up the box and it REALLY is a little square. :( What?! Two points for THAT! I do have to admit.......I took a bite..............and then another..............and then ..............HA, gotcha, bet you thought I was gonnna say another, but I stopped. Yeah, it was REALLY good! So, my Albertsons (Trent&Argonne) was out of these bars, but they had them out at Liberty Lake.

Thanks!

Recipe=Easy Homemade Pretzels

I was looking around and found this recipe that looks SUPER easy for some homemade pretzels. Anyway, I got this recipe from Saving A Bundle.  YOU DON'T EVEN NEED A BREADMAKER FOR THIS ONE! :) Okay, here is that recipe......

Pretzels

This picture if from Saving a Bundle blog.

I love breads and these pretzels make the most delicious snack or side item for dinner! I especially like to make them with Sweet & Sour dinner.

1 Tablespoon Yeast
1 1/2 cup warm water
1 1/2 teaspoons sugar
3/4 teaspoon salt
4 cups flour
Dissolve yeast in water and sugar for about 10 minutes then add the salt and 3 3/4 cups flour. Mix until dough leaves the sides of the bowl. Use 1/4 cups flour to light flour the counter to roll the pretzels. You can make any shape you like I like to make a heart and twist the two ends together to make a pretzel.

When all the pretzels are on the pan butter and salt-I like to use a thick coarse salt for the top. Place in oven on 350 degrees and bake about 5 minutes-pull out and brush with butter again. Finish baking about 3 to 5 minutes. We have done many variations of these too: cinnamon & sugar, Parmesan, etc. Enjoy!

Thanks Saving a Bundle for sharing such an AWESOME recipe!

Kitty Litter Cake

If you read my posts last week, you saw that I was buying supplies to make Kitty Litter Cake. Well, I wanted to show you a picture of what I made. Here it is......

No, that is not a little box. I sent my son into the store and he says they didn't have one and so this is what he came back with.......Yes, that is a kitty litter scoop (the serving spoon) AND YES it is clean (IT IS BRAND NEW). :)

Here is the recipe, if you are interested. Unfortunately, I cannot remember where I got it from. I did get this recipe a few years ago. Anyway, this cake is really fun to make.

Ingredients:

1 German Chocolate Cake Mix or Spice Cake Mix
1 White Cake Mix
1 package White Sandwich Cookies
1 Large package Vanilla Instant Pudding Mix
Green food coloring
12 Small Tootsie Rolls

Props:
1 Kitty litter box (NEW)
1 Kitty litter box plastic liner (NEW)
1 Pooper scooper (NEW)

Preparation:

Prepare cake mixes and bake according to directions (any size pans). Prepare pudding mix and chill until ready to assemble.

Crumble white sandwich cookies in small batches in blender, they tend to stick, so scrape often. Set aside all but about 1/4 cup.

To the 1/4 cup cookie crumbs, add a few drops green food coloring and mix using a fork or shake in a jar.

When cakes are cooled to room temperature, crumble into a large bowl. Toss with half the remaining white cookie crumbs and the chilled pudding. You probably won't need all of the pudding, mix with the cake and "feel" it, you don't want it soggy, just moist; gently combine.

Line new, clean kitty litter box. Put mixture into litter box.
Put three unwrapped Tootsie rolls in a microwave safe dish and heat until soft and pliable. Shape ends so they are no longer blunt, curving slightly. Repeat with 3 more Tootsie rolls and bury in mixture (I tend to use more Tootsie rolls than the recipe calls for). Sprinkle the other half of cookie crumbs over top. Scatter the green cookie crumbs lightly over the top, this is supposed to look like the chlorophyll in kitty litter.
Heat the remaining Tootsie Rolls, 3 at a time, in the microwave until almost melted. Scrape them on top of the cake and sprinkle with cookie crumbs. Now spread 5 of the remaining Tootsie Rolls over the top; take one and heat until pliable, hang it over the side of the kitty litter box; sprinkling it lightly with cookie crumbs. Try not to heat them too much or they will melt all over.
Place the box on a newspaper and sprinkle a few of the cookie crumbs around. Serve kitty litter cake with a NEW pooper scooper.

Thanks!

My computer

woke-up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. I am having a hard time with connecting to Internet sites and such. I am in the process of trying to get that fixed, but it may take a while. I am actually typing this from one of my other computers that I try not to use as much. It is a A LOT slower than my cranky one right now. Wish me luck! :( I will let you know when I am up and running though.

Thanks for your patience.

New Safeway Coupon Policy

We all know that they updated their policy a month or so ago and it has really been beneficial to us consumers. I have had heard rumors here and there about issues that people have been having when trying to use their coupons there. I had NOT come into any of those issues, until last night. I thought I was armed and ready, but my coupons let me down. :( It is official and I have their policy right in front of me (yeah, they let me have a copy of the store's policy, which I thought was VERY nice of them). And it is on the one available on-line. Go here to grab it if you want.

Okay, so anyway, under the section of "Internet Printed Coupons," number "17," it says, "INTERNET COUPONS MUST SCAN AT CHECKOUT."

My pizza coupon, you know the $1/5 would not scan. I had been hearing of this issue of them not taking it if it didn't scan, so I took multiple pizza coupons with me from different sites and NOT ONE of them would scan. So, I left with paying my extra $1. :( Oh well, I guess you win some and you lose some. She was willing to take it off my transaction, but I opted to be the big spender and pay the extra buck. ;) They will, however, push it through if it is a coupon that you get from products, from inserts and all those kind of coupons, just not the ones we print out from the Internet that do not scan. They have had too many people passing counterfeit coupons, and this way they don't have to worry as much. :(

I would like to add that they were very apologetic about it, which I truly appreciate, even the lady that HATES taking my coupons (coupons really intimidate her). They took the time to explain things to me at the customer service and gave me their copy of the policy too (they didn't have to do that). I go in there all the time and chat with them and ask questions and stuff, and they have been REALLY good to me thus far. I just want to say a BIG THANK YOU to them at the Argonne Safeway.

Well, I just thought I would share with you the update that I have, so you can be prepared next time you shop at Safeway. What I did was I put my order together and then I paperclipped extra coupons of the same ones that I had together just in case I needed to try them instead, but like I said NONE of my pizza coupons would scan. I could have used two from a recent insert for $0.50 or $0.55 off of three, but I didn't clip them.

So, if you are going to get the pizza, you might want to clip yours before you go. Although, I think Albertsons has them cheaper if you buy 10. I just wanted to use up my E-coupons for these, which came off. Oh, the price on the pizza was $1.29. I think the price at Albertsons is something like $0.79 when you buy 10.

Thanks!

Cheryl
