My Recent Shopping Trip

Okay, so I headed out to Target yesterday and this is what I came home with........
I paid a whopping $0.07! I saved $32.48! When I look at all of the items, I "really" saved $59.82, as the Target receipt does not take the "original" prices into count when they are on clearance.

Okay, I first of all must say that my cashier was so sweet yesterday. We had a lot of coupons that beeped and she was sooooooo very patient. Just REAL sweet.

2-Glade at $2.34 each
-$1/1 Target Coupon X2
-$2/2 printable (I don't think these are availabe anymore, but I got them from here). There is also $1/1 in the September issue of All You.
=$0.34 each

2-Shout $2.24 each
-$1/1 Target Coupon X2
-$1/1 Any Shout Laundry Product out of the Safeway coupon book (you know, the one with $16 in savings) X2
=$0.24 each

1-Shout Wipes $0.67
-$1/1 Any Shout Laundry Product out of the Safeway coupon book
=FREE

2-GE Reveal Light Bulbs $2
-$1.50 Target Coupon X2
=$0.50 each

1-"Grooming Bar" bathroom thingy $7.48
-$10/1 Home Essentials Bathroom Furniture Item Target Coupon (Actually, I'm not sure if this is still available to print)
=FREE

2-Fem Cloths $1.77 X2
-$2/2 printable NLA (I originally got this from Smart Source)
= $0.77 each!

2-Tums $1.92 X2
- $1/1 Target Coupon X2
-$1/1 printable X2
=FREE

So, originally my total would have been $6.91 (still a great deal in my book), but I had a coupon that I got out of the Working Mother Magazine (a subscription that I get for free, of course) that stated if I bought five SC Johnson products that I could get a $5 gift card back (my two Glade and three Shout are SC Johnson). So, I took this in and asked them if I could use this (meaning could I get my gift card now?). Well, apparently it does not prompt the gift card application to come up on their registers, so instead they give you $5 off of your total right there! What?! Okay, I'll take that!:) So, that is how I got my total to be $0.07! For a grand total of $0.91 AFTER TAX! Wow, THANK YOU TARGET!

Thanks!

Sick day

Well, looks like I have to take a sick day today. I have a "pukey" child in the house.:( Yuck! Anyway, I need to be with him, so I will not be posting anything today. I hope I don't miss anything good. By the way, have you taken the time to check out Target's AWESOME clearance. If you haven't I highly recommend that you do. They have a bunch of stuff at 75% off right now. This would be a GREAT time to stockup on stocking stuffers, if you celebrate Christmas. Even if you do not celebrate Christmas, this would be a great time to stockup on supplies for next year. Check the endcaps AND the isles. You just might find some awesome treasures.

Okay all, have a GREAT day and Happy Shopping!

**Giveaway Time**

Don't forget that this giveaway ends tonight! There are not that many entries, so you have a really good chance of winning so far. I might even have little surprise for the winner! :)

Have you tried any of the new scents of Gain? I have, and I LOVE the stuff. It smells soooooo good and IT WORKS REALLY WELL TOO! When it comes to dish soap I have a certain brand that I stick too and I do not stray too much away from it, but when I was contacted about doing a product review I tried it, and I absolutely LOVE THE STUFF. Are you maybe a little bit jealous? Do you wish that you had some of your own to try? Well, I'm here to tell you have no fear, because I am here. ;) I have been given the opportunity to give a $5 gift card (so you can go a grab a bottle of Gain on someone else's dime or whatever you choose) and a Gain T-shirt (Large) to one of my lucky readers. These T-shirts are soooo cute.

Before I get on down to the details let me just get a little bit of business out of the way....
**This product review was based on using a complimentary Gain product provided by P&G through My Blog Spark. Bloggers also received Walmart gift cards and T-shirts to share with their friends at their discretion. Recipe=Cornbread

This is a super easy recipe and it is soooooo good.

Simple Cornbread

This picture is of the mixture after it is all mixed up and ready to go in the oven.

Ingredients:
One box of Jiffy Cornbread mix dry
One can of cream corn

Directions:
Stir and mix it all up.
Put in a small, square baking dish
Bake it for as long as it says on the box at the temperature suggested on the box. I usually bake mine a little longer.

That's it! Your done and it is only 2 points for one square. This makes 9 servings! You can even top it a little with some cheese. This batch that I have the picture of, I added some Jalepenos from my garden. It was really really good.

Thanks!

My Shopping Trip Today

I am really sorry about the lack of posts this week. I have been soooooo busy with work, kids, life, and couponing. It has been a hectic week. I did get out and do some shopping today though. I did AWESOME at Rite Aid and Safeway! I did okay at Rosauers and Albertsons. So, here is what I did. Here is a picture of my shopping trip today........

Rite Aid-I have been stalking them all week to see if they were going to stock some more Pull-Ups. Well, I was in today and they were stocking the shelves. So, I ask the nice, young lady if they got some more in. She checked for me. They ONLY GOT ONE PACKAGE!!! REALLY?! ONE PACKAGE?! Anyway, she was REALLY SUPER nice and suggested that I still buy the ONE and then buy two others that were not what I needed. Then, I could still use my coupons and get a great deal. Then, when they come in I can come back and just exchange them straight across. YAY!!! I was a HAPPY CAMPER! So, this is what I did.

Huggies Pull-Ups $8.99X3 ($26.97)
-$1/1 Video Value Coupon X3
-$2/1 Printable from here X3
-$5 Up Reward from previous purchase
-$7 Rite Aid rebate check (SCR)

TOOP (Total out of pocket) INCLUDING tax was $2.88! PLUS, I got back three $2 UP rewards. I totally made a profit on this one!

I also used a Catalina from a previous purchase for $3. I waited for my Catalina to print AGAIN and guess what? It didn't print! So, I went up to customer service and they were kind enough AGAIN to give me $3 cash! Wahoo!! I was happy. So, TOOP was $4.11! I saved a whopping $57.57!

Okay, now onto Rosauers

Fat Free Milk $1.79 X1 (I'm gonna put this in the freezer).

-$1/1 bag pealie
= $4.51, making them $0.64 a pound!

Thanks!

**Recall** Similac Formula

If you have a little one that presently drinks Similac formula, be aware that Similac just released a voluntary recall of certain Similac-brand infant powder formulas. Let me first start off with that the site is running VERY VERY slow.
Why is Abbott recalling these products?
An internal quality review detected the remote possibility of the presence of a small common beetle in the product produced in one production area in a single manufacturing facility. The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has determined that while the formula containing these beetles poses no immediate health risk, there is a possibility that infants who consume formula containing the beetles or their larvae, could experience symptoms of gastrointestinal discomfort and refusal to eat as a result of small insect parts irritating the GI tract. If these symptoms persist for more than a few days, a physician should be consulted.

What Similac powder infant formulas are being recalled?
* Certain Similac powder product lines offered in plastic containers.
* Certain Similac powder product lines offered in 8-ounce, 12.4-ounce and 12.9-ounce cans.

* To immediately find out if the product in your possession is included in this recall, click here (you will need to type in your lot number to determine if the product is affected) or you can also call 800-986-8850.

No Abbott liquid infant formulas are impacted. Products not involved in the recall include all Abbott Nutrition liquid ready-to-feed and concentrated infant formulas and all powder and liquid specialty formulas, such as Similac Expert Care™ Alimentum®, Elecare ®, Similac Expert Care™ Neosure ®, Similac® Human Milk Fortifier, and metabolic formulas for inherited disorders.
What do I do if I have an affected product?
* Click here or call Abbott’s consumer hotline 800-986-8850, 24 hours a day, seven days a week
* Both the website and the consumer hotline have specific details on how to complete the return process.
**Hip2Save is also reproting that the phone hotline has an extremely long wait.

Thanks Hip2Save!

Apple-Oat Crumble

Check out this recipe. I just found it! Doesn't it look good. The really cool thing is it looks cheap in points from a WW perspective! I got the recipe from over here if you want to take a look around.

Apple-Oat Crumble
Surprise! Cheerios® cereal and oats top apples for dessert.

Ingredients:
4 cups sliced peeled or unpeeled red apples (3 to 4 medium)
2 cups Cheerios® cereal
1/2 cup quick-cooking oats
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/3 cup firm butter or margarine

Directions:
1. Heat oven to 375°F.
2. Arrange apple slices in ungreased 8- or 9-inch square pan. Crush cereal. In medium bowl, stir together cereal, oats, brown sugar and cinnamon; cut in butter thoroughly. Sprinkle over apples.
3. Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until golden brown.
High Altitude (3500-6500 ft): Bake 30 min; cover with foil. Bake 10-15 min longer.

Recipe provided by: Cheerios

Now, I haven't went and figured out how many calories or points this might come up to be. I probably would make a few adjustments. For instance, I would probably omit the butter (maybe even use a little bit of applesauce?). I would use Splenda Brown Sugar, maybe even cut it down to 1/4 and then add 1/4 Regular Splenda. Other than that, I would probably leave everything else the same.

Thanks!

Cheryl

How's This For Frugal?

I keep kicking myself! So, last year, when we started our "frugal" adventure. I have only been couponing for a year. Okay, so I started couponing around September of last year. So, after Halloween we went out and bought a whole bunch of Halloween clearance. It was great! We EVEN got costumes for our kids for dirt cheap. Well, guess what? I forgot we did this. Annnnnnnd we went and bought "new" costumes for the two youngest ones this weekend! What?! I had a feeling that we already bought costumes, so my husband and I went out and looked through our Halloween stuff and sure enough, there, in the box, lie two costumes for the two little ones. Well, what do I do now? They both LOVE their new costumes. She a "Southern Belle" and he, as he would say "Dark Vader." He LOVES Star Wars. It took her FOREVER to pick out a costume. Although, NOT FRUGAL AT ALL, I think I am just going to let them keep their "new" costumes and save the "old" ones for next year, as I think they will fit them still.

I am just so frustrated. I probably paid less than $10 for the two costumes last year and wound up paying $30. Golly, I'm so mad at myself!

Well, I guess a lesson was learned here though,.........CHECK MY STOCKPILE OF HOLIDAY STUFF BEFORE BUYING!!! :)

Have you done anything like this?

Thanks!

Monday, Weigh-In Report

Well, I am pleased to announce that "the scale" WAS my friend yesterday. He reported good numbers. Yay! I was down 1.2! How's that for gettin' back on "the wagon?" I like that!

Things that "I think" were helpful to me this past week were:
1)  I tracked EVERYTHING that I ate. I tried to stay away from the BLTs (bites, licks, and tastes). Staying about from those is SOOOOOO hard.
2)  I worked out with my WII Active. I got this game for my birthday a couple of weeks ago and I LOVE IT!!! It's like having a personal trainer right in my very own living room. I put myself on the 30-day plan and it REALLY has started to help motivate me in my journey to the "skinny zone." It's really nice ot have a schedule to keep of working out. (Yes, I do have to fight with the WII lover in our house in order to get "my" time on it, but he (Blakey) shares pretty well).
3)  I tried a new "sweet" snack and I LOVE IT!!! Someone at WW a few weeks ago mentioned something that they did, and then I tried it with my very own spin to it.
~You take an apple, core it, and cut it into like six or so slices.
~Put it on a plate you can put in the microwave.
~Sprinkle some Splenda and some cinnamon on it.
~Put it in the microwave until the apple gets a little soft.
~Then, I take it out and put a couple of dollops of FF Cool-Whip on it (2 Tablespoons, FREE in points).

**This makes a VERY YUMMY "sweet" snack for ONLY 1 POINT!!!

Okay, so how did you do this week?

Any suggestions, questions, tidbits? Please share. You know, we are coming onto one of the most hardest times of the year with Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, and the various other holidays that you may celebrate in there? What do you do to help keep you on track during these times?

Okay, so until next week, cheers.

Thanks!

You Might Want To Keep Your Eye Out

I have heard from Hooked on Bargains that some people are reporting FREE Wonka Chocolate at Walmart. Of course, all their prices vary by region, so that might not be accurate for us, here, in Spokane, but it is definitely worth checking on. So, the next time you find yourself heading to Walmart, take your coupon of $1.50/1 Wonka Exceptionals from the 9/12 Red Plum insert (did we even get this one, I haven't confirmed whether we got this one or not yet?). "People" are saying that they have them priced at only $1.50 each.  Wouldn't that be awesome?! Especially with baking season coming and Halloween.

If you find out before me, would you let us know, please?

Thanks Hooked on Bargains!

UPDATE on FREE Can of Pringles Xtreme!

FREE can of Pringles Xtreme….UPDATE

I was just reading about this on A Thrifty Mom's Blog. She is reporting that the Pringles Xtreme that we reported and signed up for the other day was actually spam.

I (The Frugal Life of a Mom) am also very sorry to have listed such a thing. I am apologize for any inconvience this may have caused you. I do my hardest to verify my postings, but there are times that I too get fooled and this was one of those times. Anyway, if you want them off of your Facebook account, it is really really easy to remove them. I just did it and it was very simple.

This is how you do it......
1. Go to your account drop down menu in upper right corner of your Facebook Account.
2. Click on Application Settings.
3. You will see a list of Companies you’ve given access to in the past.
4. Just click the X for the ones you would no longer like to give access to.
5. That’s it you’re done! It was real easy peasy.

Thanks A Thrifty Mom for the heads up!

My Recent Shopping Trip

What a day. It was a great day. I got to meet up with The Coupon Posse' at their "Giving Back" event. What a bunch of nice ladies. Kudos to them for putting on such an event, and a BIG THANK YOU too. Did you see all the stuff they got?

Anyway, after meeting up with The Coupon Posse', Blakey and I (oh, really quick, I have to add that he was such an angel while I sat and chatted it up with the ladies. He was soooo good!) went back out to "our" Safeway in "the" valley and look at what we got for, literally $0.19..........

It wasn't quite at successful though, at first. As I paid $3.19 OOP. Then, realized I didn't get my Cat. So, Blakey and I went on and did a couple of other erands and I realized I didn't get my Cat. So, I toyed with the idea of just not going back at all or going back and seeing what happened (I didn't want to wait for the Catalina to come in the mail either). Well, I just can't let FREE money go out the window, so I headed my butt back to "my" Safeway and told them what had happened. Luckily, I had the printout that I had gotten from Safeway that there was a Catalina deal going on, because they didn't have it posted anywhere. Anyway, the nice gentleman could not "make" my Catalina print out at the customer service desk, as they don't have one of those machines there. Soooooooo, HE GAVE ME $3 BACK!!! Yay! He was so very nice about it too. Heck yeah, that works for me too. :) So, I was all sad and mopey before walking in, and now I'm a happy camper. Thanks so much to the gentleman at "my" Safeway.

Here is a little breakdown of the deal.

Pillsbury 10 for $10 (only select ones).
-$1/2 from here
There are some e-coupons for these too from either Cellfiire.com or shortcuts.com

Sweet Moments $3.49
-markdown 50% off, making it $1.75
-$1.50
There are also e-coupons for these too, I think.

Mission Tortillas $1
-$0.55/1 from MDA Safeway Coupon book
=$0.45, not too bad of a price. I think that is pretty good.

Thanks!

*Repost* Are you lookin' for a way to give back?

Just a reminder, if you are interested, that The Coupon Posse' is holding their food drive today. See below for details:

Well, I would like to share with you a suggestion I may have. The Coupon Posse is hosting a "Give Back" Event this week.

Here is a bit of the back story first.....(This is from their site).....

I am going to share a very personal story with The Coupon Posse' readers. This is a little out of my comfort zone, but I thought it would be well worth sharing.

About 8 years ago, I was in the middle of a divorce, I had no job, and I had three young children to support. I was literally beside myself on how I was going to make ends meet. One day I was sharing my circumstances with a close friend and she told me to call a place called the Caritas Center. I thought about it for several days then reluctantly picked up the phone and made the call. When I called they were very nice and seemed understanding of my situation, which was a relief for me. I went to my appointment and was more than surprised when they pulled out two wagons full of food out to my car. This was so much more than I had expected and I was so grateful.

That was first and last time I went there, but they never forgot who I was because that Christmas I received a call from them asking if I could please come down and pick up Christmas presents for my children. I was so stunned and at the same time felt so blessed because this Christmas in particular was going to be very slim.

So the reason I'm telling you this story is because I always thought that if I could ever give back to the Caritas Center I would jump on the opportunity. Well here is that moment! The Coupon Posse' is going to "GIVE BACK" and we are giving it all to the Caritas Center. We would love for you to join us! Remember, little acts of kindness can make a world of difference, and can make a huge impact on someone else’s life.

Okay, so here are a couple of details, like where and when.....

You could either drop your donations off directly to the Caritas Center at:
N 2919 Monroe
Spokane, WA 99205
M, W, Th from 10:00-1:00

OR, you could even meet up with The Coupon Posse, TOMORROW, September 15th between 10:00-1:00 at.....

Safeway (in the parking lot)
N 1616 NW BLVD
Spokane, WA 99205

This is a great way to "give back." A BIG THANK YOU to The Coupon Posse' for hosting such an event and to JoDee for sharing her story!

Yay!! Another $5/25 Rite Aid Coupon

I LOVE THESE COUPONS!! Just go on over here and you can print out your $5/25 coupon for Rite Aid. I too saw this coupon yesterday, and did not post as I tried to go print it and it said that I had already reached my max in printing these. I was just checking out The Coupon Posse' (one of my favorite blogs) and they reported the same problem and then they tried it again today and IT WORKED! Yay, mine did too!

Product Comment

Let's e-mail a company today with a compliment.

We are going to e-mail.....
Viva Paper Towels with this comment......I just wanted to share with you, again, that my family and I absolutely LOVE Viva Paper Towels. I especially like that they are so sturdy and dependable to clean up a spill. We plan on continuing to use these for a longtime. Thank you!

You can also go over here is a coupon for Viva Paper Towels.  Just go on over here to print out a coupon for $0.50/2 Rolls of the Viva Towels Big Rolls.

Thanks!

Cheryl

P.S. I know that it has been a while since we have done these, but I figured I would try to start it up again. For those of you that are new to this, what I do is I will go and find a company and their contact info and I will send them a compliment e-mail for providing us with such great products and the majority of the time they respond back with a nice coupon or sometimes even FREE product for telling them such things. Now, my compliments are never untrue. Yes, sometimes I do send negative comments, if something wasn't right with the product, but I do not publish those.

Anyway, I find the company and I write out the compliment and provide you with the link that I used. Sometimes we will get the same thing, sometimes one of us will get a higher value coupon, sometimes one of us will get nothing. It is never consistent, but it is well worth the time and effort.

Okay, good luck and please let me know if you have any ideas of companies to e-mail.

Thanks!

Cheryl

Some things I have been doing

I have been busy lately. I have painted a wall in my front room/dining and now I'm in a mode to PAINT EVERYTHING! Not good. Just ask my husband. ;) Here are a couple of pictures that I would like to share. This first one is of the back of my head (my daughter Faith was the photographer here) painting my white, boring wall the new color. I just LOVE the color.

The next picture is of that cabinet (what is this cabinet called anyway?) and my white, boring wall.

(Again, photographs done by my 6-year-old, Faith, not too bad)

Okay, this next one is of the after. Try to ignore that UGLY light at the top.

I just LOVE this color AS an accent wall. It is not too bold and just right for me. The problem is now I REALLY DO WANT TO PAINT EVERYTHING. So, I figured I would finish up what I started, 'cause now I REALLY REALLY want to paint my kitchen.

Okay, so my friend, Tammy, had this color in her house and I loved it and copied it. She said it was okay. ;) Anyway, she got her paint from Lowe's, you know the kind with the primer in it already. Well, I happened to get mine at Freddies, Labor Day weekend, and only paid something like $15 a gallon. I was very very happy with that and I still have almost a whole gallon left. So, this project here only cost a little over $15 to do. Wow! I consider that frugal.

Okay, so now onto my next project.....So, I was looking around yesterday and and realized that I COULD spray paint my picture frames. So, this is what they looked like before.......

Here is what they look like with a little spray primer ($2.97 a can at Walmart).

Okay, now here is what they look like with a little spray paint from Walmart ($0.97 a can at Walmart)

Look at that beauty. Well, I think it is, as I have NEVER done anything like this before. Now, I am going to put my pictures back in these frames and hang them back up on my "new" wall. I think it will look pretty good. We'll see. I will have to take a picture of that too.

Anyway, the cost of spray painting the picture frames was only around $7 and I spray painted A LOT of frames. Not too shabby. Next, I am going to paint the trim of my wall white and do a little touch up here and there and THEN I will be done.

I am soooo excited about this. Do you have any "frugal" makeover tips for your home? I would love to hear them.

Thanks!

Cheryl

An Idea....

Okay, I'm sure most of you "frugalishious" people out there have already thought of this, as sometimes I am a little slow coming to the table, if you get my drift. ;) Anyway, I don't know what brought this on, but I was just thinking this morning. Of course, about liquid handsoap. I have a lot of body wash that I like to keep on-hand for gifts and whatnot, but why not use it in the liquid handsoap container for handsoap? I was looking to see if all handsoap has antibacterial "stuff" in it, but it doesn't. So, I'm thinking that if I don't donate or give away my stock of body wash that this is a GREAT idea. I still have yet to make the recipe I posted about a couple of weeks ago, as I have not run out of hand soap yet and may NEVER run out, if I can do this with the body wash.

Any thoughts of why this would or wouldn't work?

Thanks!

Cheryl

Free Sample of

Walmart is currently offering up a free sample of a of Crest Pro-Health Clinical Gum Protection Paste. All you have to do is take a two-question quiz and if you qualify you will get this sample. Don't worry, because if you don't, like I didn't, they will offer you a different sample. I was offered a sample of Crest with Scope Outlast Toothpaste. Just go on over here to get it all started.

I really like these kind of freebies. I usually send away for them and then when they come in I have a box that I "prettied" up that I put all of my sample supplies in, then if we ever go out of town or whatnot and we need a "small" supply of toiletries or whatnot. These are really nice to have on hand, as they don't take up very much space in luggage or whatever you may pack your stuff in.

Thanks Smart Shopping Ladies!
