My Shopping Trips Today

I went on a shopping trip today. I went to three separate stores and did four separate transactions. I went to Safeway, Macy's, and Albertsons. Total saved today was $72.02 and total spent today was $19.29!

Safeway I did three separate transactions

Transaction #1

Nature Valley Granola bars X5
-in ad coupon making them $1.77 each (must have a minimum purchase of $10)
=$8.85
-$1/2 X2
-$0.50/1
=$6.35

Okay, so as you can see my purchase before coupons was well-below $10. I had also tried to purchase some Afrin that was on clearance for $6-something with 50% off of that, making it $3-something. I had a printable for $3/1. Well, since he had to manually input the price of the Afrin the computer does not recognize it and he said that I couldn't use my coupon because it would take the price of my item down to more than 50% off. I have had this battle with him before, so I just said to take it off of my purchase. I didn't feel like "arguing." So, then I was concerned it was going to mess up my Safeway coupon, but it didn't. I STILL was able to use my Safeway coupon with no problem. So, I paid a total of $6.35 and got a Catalina back for $3.50!

Transaction #2
Betty Crocker Fruit Snacks $0.99 each X5
=$4.95
-$1/3
-$0.50/2
-$3.50 (Catalina from previous order)
=-$0.05 (he had to add the $0.05 back on my order so it was just zero)=FREE! Plus, I got back another $3.00 Catalina

Transaction #3

Nature Valley Granola bars X5

-in ad coupon making them $1.77 each (must have a minimum purchase of $10)
=$8.85
-$1/2 X2
-$0.50/1

Thin Pork Chops $5.65
-50% off clearance price=$3.99

-$3.00 Catalina from the BC Fruit Snacks

=$5.34

I still have a $3.50 Catalina to use on my next order!

Macy's

Wow, I had heard that Macy's was having some sort of a "denim sale," so I thought I would go test it out for you all and see what I could come up with. Well, it kinda blew up in my face.

So, I have NEVER shopped in Macy's before. Really thought that it was NOT my kinda store, but quickly realized that I LOVE their clearance prices! Anyway, I talked to the sales associate and asked her about the sale and she explained it to me. So, I was going to purchase some REALLY cheap denim (get a head start on school clothes for Blakey). So, I got a pair of Levi's on clearance for $9.99, but they were actually 25% off of that, so that made them $6.99. Okay, so I WAS supposed to get back a $10 card to use on my next purchase. My plan was to go ahead and roll this as many times as I could to get some FREE and cheap clothes for the kiddos. Well, I get up there and I have to deal with this other person. I told him that I was dealing with the other lady about the coupon/gift card "thingy." So, he tells me well that already ended and your total is $6.99. NO explanation or ANYTHING. So, again, out of my comfort zone, I do not battle with the evil forces of Macy's. :) I go on my pouty way and go pout in my car. I call my husband and I am ticked. Do I go back in and make a fuss? I REALLY DID get a good deal anyway, but my whole purpose was to get the $10 card. Do I go back in or not? Well, he says, it's okay just move on and know that you STILL got a good deal. Well, there is my answer. I don't know about you, but I usually, for some reason, DO the TOTAL opposite of what he suggests. So, I GO back in. I'm gonna do this. Well, I thought I would go look at the sign just so I have a little proof. Well, I'm sure glad I looked at the sign BECAUSE the sale ended yesterday! So, I quietly take myself out of the store with my pants and I am happy BECAUSE I did get a good deal. I saved 15 bucks! I know I know, I really should have made a fuss because that sign was still up, but what the heck I got a good deal. Not as good as I wanted, but it was still a good deal.

So, at Macy's total spent was $7.60 (including tax) and total saved was $15!

Okay, so now onto Albertsons. Really, why do I punish myself and go to Argonne and Trent? Why? They just tick me off EVERY time I go in. They are just so close to my house and when the roads are bad or I am running short on time this is where I go.

Okay, so this is what I do.....

Wholy Guacamole $1.99 X3
-$2/1 X3
=FREE

Kellogg's Fiber Plus Cereal $2 X3
-$1/1 X3
-Three Doublers

Free cereal bowl when you purchase ANY two Kellogg's cereals.

TOOP (Total out of pocket) ZERO!!! Total saved was $20.04!

I hope you are getting some good shopping in. :)

Product Comments

Well, this is the start of a new year and what a better way to start it out than to start product comments again.

If you are new to this, here is what we are doing. I will e-mail a few companies about products that my family and I enjoy/like with compliments. Sometimes they are so happy with your positive feedback that they will send you a coupon in the mail to use on your next purchase of "their" item. It is a GREAT way to give positive feedback to the companies that make products that you enjoy and a GREAT way to get a coupon or two. If you have any suggestions on companies, please let me know. Anyway, I will put a link in these posts to the company that we are complimenting and I will share with you what I wrote. You can either use "my" compliment or send one of your own. I make it pretty easy for you.

Okay, here is our first one for 2011....

Blue Diamond-I want to thank you for making such a great product. My family loves Blue Diamond products. They are a great, healthy snack for us. We look forward to enjoying them for a longtime. Thanks! Cheryl

Okay, good luck!
