Frugal Halloween Events in Spokane

Are you looking for "something" fun and frugal to do with the kiddos to celebrate Halloween? Here is are a few things, some of them free and some of them with a fee. See what works for you and your family. This is a huge list, but hopefully you an get something out of it. :)

**Carnival - Annual event with silent auction, bingo, games, food, face painting and a haunted house. Friday. 5-8 p.m. (TONIGHT) Seth Woodard Elementary, 7401 E. Mission Ave., Spokane Valley. (509) 921-2160. (WE WILL BE THERE!!!) This is SOOOOOO FUN. WE GO EVERY YEAR!!! The admission is free, tickets will be 3 for $1 at the door. Most games and activities are 1 or 2 tickets. The SILENT AUCTION IS AWESOME!!! Last year we won a silent auction bid to have our oil changed at Jiffy Lube for $6! You can even get dinner with your tickets. Where else can you go and take your kids to have a GREAT time for way less than $20 (at least my three kiddos). Some friends are ours are taking their kiddos (2) and only spending $12 total for tickets. You EVEN can win FREE cakes at the cake walks. We have been to many other carnivals and this one BY FAR IS THE BEST! All the proceeds go back to the school and support those kiddos. Admission is FREE and you don't have to attend Seth Woodard in order to attend. So, come on out! It is going to be a blast! I look forward to this EVERY year.

Frugal Halloween Tips

When I had posted my last giveaway, one of the possible entries was to share a "frugal" Halloween tip. Well, we got a few tips and I REALLY want to share them with you like.....

Frugal Halloween tip? Make your own Halloween costume! We've bought headbands at the dollar store and then glued felt ears to them. Add a little face paint and solid-colored "fur"-colored clothes and you can be any number of animals on the cheap!

We try to make the costumes to save money. One year my son wanted to be a robot, so I made a silver shirt and pants and we attached dryer vent for the arms and lower legs. Then my husband put together a bunch of gizmos and gadgets from the garage as his robot panel. It was one of the coolest costumes!

halloween tip: sprinkle the under side of your jack-o-lantern lid with ground cinnamon and/or nutmeg to get a yummy aroma :)

My cheap Halloween idea is to add tonic it water to your drinks and they will glow under a black light. It adds a nice touch to a Halloween party, and tonic water is pretty cheap.

My frugal tip is that each year after halloween I wait until the stuff is 75% off and I buy a few costumes for my kids and some fun decorations and pack it in our halloween container and don't tell the kids and then when we pull it out next october, there are fun costumes and decorations that I bought on clearance. This year we had all sorts of star wars and princess stuff to choose from and fun new decorations!

New Addition To Our Family

I am very happy to announce that we are expecting a little one. Yes, we are expecting a girl. Her name is Sadie. I have been very very busy lately trying to get ready for her arrival, as I am not used to having such a little one around the house again. Oh, having to deal with "potty" AGAIN! We have been out of that stage for a while now. My husband and I have had a lot of heart-to-hearts about bringing another one into our family and we think that we (as the adults and parents in this family) and we as a family (our kids too) are ready to make the move. So, we were really excited because we have been waiting to bring Sadie home and TODAY was supposed to be the day, but now we can get her until tomorrow. So, because we are soooooo excited and I have wanted to share with you all all week and have not been able to, as our kids did not know yet either, I want to show you a picture. Now, it is not the greatest picture, but you will get my drift.

Yes, she is behind bars. We were not able to bring her home yet becaused she needs to be spayed before she comes home. She is getting spayed tomorrow. She is about 8 yrs old and she is a Yorkie. We are rescuing her from one of the local shelters. We actually had our eye on her on Saturday, but had to wait until today as she needed to be on hold for 72 hours in case her previous owners wanted to reclaim her, so it has been a really hard and long week for my husband and I. Having to keep this from our kids was REALLY hard. We just did not know if we were REALLY going to get her. Were her previous owners going to reclaim her? Were they going to say that she was not adoptable? Was she going to be good with kids? I tell you, I was soooooo nervous today when I was on my way there, I almost turned around and came home. I didn't want to have my heart broken. I have been so sad for her all week long, knowing that she was there in the shelter and there was absolutely NOTHING that we could do until the 72 hours were up. They said be there between 12-noon and 2 pm to claim her if you want here, let me tell you WE WERE THERE RIGHT AT NOON! Then, we found out that we could not take her home quite yet. So, we were a bit bummed, but we definitely understand. So, when she goes to the vet tomorrow she will actually get groomed too, which will be really nice, as my little Blakey says that she does not have any eyes. :) Yes, he was the only one that got to meet her today. So, we let him break the news to his brother and sister. All of the kids are SOOOOOOO excited and VERY VERY emotional about it. Emotional good, not emotional bad. We did some tears of joy out of those two. Very, very sweet.

Anyway, I just thought I would share with you all of what has been going on.

By the way, we were just at Walmart on Broadway tonight looking for some "doggie" stuff and found that those Ceasar treats (doggie treats) are priced at $2.98. There is a coupon in 10/3 RP for $2/1. We paid $0.98 for some (I guess) yummy and expensive treats!

I love my mailman today.......

Okay, so after having a morning of major chaos, my mailman came to my door today and MADE MY DAY! Tried to take a picture with really shakey hands because I was so excited to share with you all of what I got in the mail today.......

Okay, so I got the coffee "sample" from Green Mountain Coffee from their Facebook page. Look at the mug I got too! The toothpaste sample, I got from Walmart as with the Playtex sample. The Vaseline lotion sample I got from Sam's Club. This one, you didn't have to be a member to get the sample, which is a good thing because we don't have a Sam's Club in our city. :( But, not only that, look at all those coupons I got too!

This is why I post samples and why I send for them. It really does add up and like I said before, I just put it in my little box. I will have to take a picture of that some day and show you what I mean. Then, we just have it for when we need something small. These samples sizes are REALLY nice to have on hand.

I almost forgot......

Well, I did forget. I know that it is not Monday, but how 'bout a Tuesday weigh-in report? Well, ready for my excuses. :( I really did not do that hot, but I am happy with how I did. Let me tell you why, k? I had a loss! Now, it wasn't a big loss, but it was a loss and NOT a gain. As I told Angie (hey Angie), my lucky weigher, I am having a REALLY hard time eating "good" things on-the-go. Now, I am NOT new to this plan at all, though I don't claim to know EVERYTHING about this plan as it ALWAYS kick me in the butt, but I know better. My life has been sooooooo crazy busy (I am REALLY not used to being this busy) that I REALLY do have to eat on the go. Well, I "try" to stick to wholesome/"filling" foods and that is really hard when you are on-the-go. I don't even sit down to eat during the day (bad). I either eat while working or take a bit or two on the way to the shower (bad). Usually, once out of the shower, I am getting make-up on, doing my hair, and getting dressed, and OUT THE DOOR we go to here and there. For someone who works from home, I am not home very much, which I am thinking is going to have to change pretty soon, especially once the snow flies. So, I am struggling a bit here. I am a "routine" person and I like my "routines," so this whole being out of routine is not working really well for me, though I have no choice. Any advice? I REALLY need help.

I think I just need to plan out ahead of time (I am not a planner in most cases) and get my foods ready ahead of time. I dunno.

Okay, so on a good note, I DID "RUN" on my treadmill four times last week! I broke it up like I said I would and I did it! See, I told you all about it and kept my word! :) Yay! Soooooo, guess what? I'm gonna do it AGAIN! Four times AGAIN this week! So far, I have one day down. Today will be day two and then I will take a break tomorrow, then run again Thursday and Friday. Although, I am not sure that I will be able to keep my word for Thursday as we have a lot going on on Thursday, so I "might" not take a break tomorrow. I dunno, we'll see. What I do know is that I am going to commit to "running" four times this week though.

Oh, so you ask how much I lost? Well, it was 0.2 pounds. See, I told you it wasn't that much, but it was a loss, right?

Okay, we have no bake sales to be baking for this week, but we have the carnival and Halloween is on Sunday. I think I will do okay. I will just have a Fiber One bar with me (my rescue food because it tastes just like a candybar) or something like that.

I LOVE Fiber One Bars. Have you tried them? For the "normal" sized bars, chocolate or caramel, they are ONLY two points!

Okay, so, now that I am running late again, I am going to "run" on my treadmill. Sooooo, off to my treadmill.......

**Recall** Nestle Raisinets

Nestle USA has just issued a voluntary recall on Rasinets Fun Size Bags because the candy MAY CONTAIN PEANUTS, which can cause potentially life-threatening reaction in people with allergies to peanuts (the peanuts were not included on the list of ingredients).

These Fun Size Bags (10 oz) have the production code of....02015748/UPC number 2800010255.

These bags were distrubuted ONLY in the U.S. to Target, Shop Rite, and Don Quixote retail stores.

The only product involved is Nestle Raisinets Fun Size Bags (10oz) distributed in the U.S. with a production code of 02015748/UPC number 2800010255.  No other Nestlé products are impacted.

Nestle asked consumers to contact Nestle Consumer Services directly at 1-800-478-5670 for a full refund and discard any remaining packages. Consumers should NOT return Nestle Raisinets Fun Size Bags (10oz) with a production code of 02015748/UPC number 2800010255 to retailers. Operators are available between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. EST and after hours for emergencies. *Recall* Halloween Candy

There has been a Halloween candy recall....

It looks like certain lots of Mega Pops lollipops are being recalled because the candy may contain "minute traces" of stainless steel.

A consumer complaint prompted North Carolina Department of Agriculture inspectors to test samples of the candy imported from Colombia, and that state agency found metal fibers and flakes in the candy and issued a consumer warning.

Columbina said that they while believe there is no health risk, they still urged customers to return any bag of Mega Pops, REGARDLESS of the lot number, to the store where it was purchasedfor either a refund or store credit.
It looks like the recalled lots of Mega Pops is about 90,000 bags in-total. They were distrubuted nationwide at several retailers and wholesalers.
The RECALLED LOTS are:  Watermelon, cherry, orange and grape-flavored lollipops in 14-ounce and 28-ounce cellophane bags with the UPC code numbers of either 0 14272 10873 9 or 0 14272 10862 3. The lot numbers of 1240695, 1209708, or 1209796 can be found in a white square on the back of the bag in the lower left side.

They have setup a 24-hour hotline to answer ANY questions consumers may have. The number is.... (888) 317-3686.

I had sooooo much fun at Rite Aid today. I was on my way to Weight Watchers this morning and I thought I would stop by to see what I could score "real quick." Well, needless to say I was a bit late for my WW meeting this morning. Well, I had to get my shop on right? :) Okay, so I did two separate transactions this morning and I did AWESOME!!!! Then, I went back again after my WW meeting and did another shop. Here they are....

Old Navy Sale Today

FYI, just a quick heads up, Old Navy is having a sale today on their Fleece vests. They are only $5 each, for the whole family. My son, Trent, and I headed out this morning and were there at 7 o'clock. I think we got out of there a little after 8. We had a GREAT time! ALL of their clearance was an EXTRA 50% off! I got a really cute tank for myself for $0.98. I got some really cute summer sandals for $3! Even if you don't make it in time to get the fleece vests, it's definitely worth going and checking out the clearance prices. Oh, don't forget to go over here to "dig" up a coupon to take with you. I FORGOT mine.:(

Oh, I almost forgot. They DO NOT have any boy's vests. They didn't get any in. I did do my shop at the vallely location.

Today,

I am soooooo far behind on EVERYTHING. I have a TON of work sitting on my desk to be taken care of and I am still typing my little fingers away. I will do my best to get on here and post, but I really don't see any light at the end of my tunnel today. I still have yet to take a shower! I have to be at my daughter's school around 1 or so, and then from there I have to get my son from his school and take him to volunteer in his old class (different school). Oh, then, my in-laws are coming over for dinner. I have no idea what I'm making! Yikes!

But, for now, I am signing off to take a little time out for myself and "run" on my treadmill for 15 minutes. This will help me, if I do it tonight, hit my goal of running four days this week (although with all of my shopping that I did yesterday, I only walked yesterday BUT I GOT ON :)).

Fred Meyer Shop

Well, I while I was out and about I also hit up Fred Meyer TWO times. I went this morning and got this.......

I would have spent around $21.66 before sales and coupons. I spent around $3.08 plus tax! Wow! We were in need of some facial tissue!

Right now Fred Meyer has their Seventh Generation products on 50% off, plus there are coupons out there. Go here (you will have to sign up if you haven't already) to get $2/2 and $1/1 Disinfectant wipes or spray. You can print these out two times. Also, while you are in there, make sure you go check out the coupon bin. I found a coupon in there for $1/1 Seventh Generation dish soap.

Also, there are coupons in their little magazine by the natural food section. I cannot remember what it is called, but there are $1/1 Seventh Generation products in there. If you do happen to take a coupon out of the FREE magazine, please take the magazine with you though. I went and grabbed a couple of coupons tonight (yes, I went again because I forgot my Britta coupons this morning) and there were quite a few magazines there, but the majority of the coupons were taken out. I did happen to find a couple that the coupon was still intact.

I almost forgot to mention, their Britta Water Pitchers are on sale from $19.99, down to $4.99! Go here, if you haven't already and print out your coupon for $5/1! This makes them FREE!! You will have to take the pledge though in order to print out your coupon. Christmas is coming. ;) They still had plenty of filters when I was in there this evening.

Oh, by the way, I don't know what is doing it, but I bought both the Seventh Generation tissue X4 and dish soap on both transactions and both times I got a Catalina back for $1/2 Seventh Generation dish soaps! :)

Yoke's Shopping Trip Today

Okay, I shared with you all a little earlier, when I got home the first time, about Yoke's going out of business sale. Wow! WE HAD SOOOO MUCH FUN! Look at what we got.......

This would have been $261.86! BUTTTTT, with all of my savings and my coupons this only cost me $64.03! Yep, I even bought that dog crate for 50% off! That little dog crate only ended up being $11.99! I used coupons for pretty much EVERYTHING, except for the dog crate, dog dishes, and candy thermometer (I have always wanted one of these).

Here are a few prices that I remember......

Use the B1G1 Free for the Snickers. They were only $0.39 each before coupon.
Smarts Ones were only $1.49 each. Use the coupon for $5/5 from the Safeway coupon book.
Tide Booster was $2.29. Use the $3/1 from recent P&G (it might have been last month's P&G)
Fiesta Seasoning was only $0.67!
Crystal Light was $1.79. There was a printable out there that I had that expired today!
Cheer laundry soap was $2.94. Use the $2/1 from recent insert (I can't remember which one), makes it only $0.94!
Blue Diamond Almonds were $0.50. I'm not sure it will work, but there was a coupon in a recent add for $1/2.
If you have Mentos coupons, Tic-Tac, or event the Trident ($1/3), these would make for FREE!

Oh, Scrubbing Bubbles the spray shower cleaner was only $1.50 after the $3 coupon from recent insert or there is a printable out there somewhere too! :)

Okay, now I have NO room in my freezer for ANYTHING else.

Just a side note, I am very very pleased to hear that Yoke's is relocating their employes from this store (Sprague and Progress) out to other stores nearby. Yay! Thanks Yoke's! :)

FYI-Yoke's is going out of business

on Sprague and Progress, out in the valley. To tell you the truth, I thought they were already closed. :( It is really sad. It seems like that store has been there FOREVER and the people have been SOOOOO nice. Anyway, I was driving by this morning, after taking the kiddos to the doctor, and noticed that they are at 50% off today. Well, I went in real quick to see if they even had anything left. I bought a couple packages of plastic spoons, forks, and knives for $0.49. When I was up there, I asked the gentleman if they were taking coupons. He said, "YES!!!" Then, I said, "okay, well then I'll be back later." I had to drop the kids off at school still. So, I rushed and dropped them off and rushed back, grabbed my coupons, and my helper (Blakey) and we went to town!!!!

I just, literally, got home, but wanted to share with you about the 50% off sale. I still have to take a picture of my goodies, put everything away, and feed Blakey lunch. Yep, he is demanding lunch.

Prescription Coupons

Here is a great site to print out coupons for prescriptions! They have so many coupons on here. You can kinda just look around and see if they have a prescription that you may use or whatnot. Some of these coupons are really high value. If they do not have a prescription coupon for one that you may need, you can input your info, the drug, and the dosage and they will let you know if they come up with something. Wow! Anyway, the site is called YourRxDiscounts.com.

Here are a couple of FAQs from their website....

How do I use this discount?

Click, print, bring, and save.
Just find the discount you want, print it from your computer, bring it to your pharmacy, and present it when you pay for your prescription to save money on the spot.

How does this work? Where do these discounts come from?
All you have to do is show your printout or card to the pharmacist to save. The pharmacist will have the lower price already programmed into his/her computer.

Of note, I did try and look around this morning to check on the validity of this program and I could find nothing bad. All I saw were good comments.

Safeway

I went and kind of walked around Safeway today as I did not have my coupons with me, but I still couldn't resist staying out of the store.

Anyway, a couple of things that I saw.

~Oatmeal was 2 for $5. If you printed the $2/1 coupon earlier in the week, this makes for $0.50 a box. I just checked and the coupon is no longer available. There was also a coupon in one of the inserts recently for $1/1.
~Better Oats was on sale for B1G1 Free. Gosh, I cannot remember how much they were, but you can score a coupon over here, if you haven't done so already for $0.75/1.
~Sobe (Regular Sobe and Sobe Lifewater) was 10 for $10, plus you get a $5 Cat back. I just looked for coupons, but could not find any. Anyone, know of any coupons out there?
